Discover Madrid’s Art with Louis Nye: Creative Art Workshops in English for Kids
Give your children the chance to enjoy a unique art and creativity experience in some of Madrid’s most iconic museums. These workshops are led by Louis Nye, a London-based teacher at La Casita de Inglés and a professional artist, who brings art to life for children aged 7 and up (without parental accompaniment).
During this 90-minute experience, children will take part in a fully immersive activity conducted entirely in English, combining the exploration of masterpieces with a hands-on art workshop. The visit begins with a fun and educational walk through the museum, where they will learn about the stories, characters and emotions behind the artworks.
They will also discover how these pieces, even though created long ago, connect with today’s world, from the video games they play to the fashion and music that surround them.
In the second half of the workshop, children will create their own artwork inspired by what they have seen, guided step by step by Louis.

¡Lleva a tus hijos a vivir una experiencia única de arte y creatividad en algunos de los museos más icónicos de Madrid! Estos talleres están dirigidos por Louis Nye, profesor londinense de La Casita de Inglés y artista profesional, quien hará que el arte cobre vida para niños de 7 años en adelante (sin acompañamiento de padres).
Durante 1 hora y 30 minutos, los niños disfrutarán de una experiencia inmersiva completamente en inglés que combina la exploración de obras maestras con una actividad artística práctica. La visita comienza con una divertida y educativa caminata por el museo, donde aprenderán sobre las historias, personajes y emociones detrás de las obras. Además, descubrirán cómo estas piezas, aunque antiguas, están conectadas con el mundo actual, desde los videojuegos que juegan hasta la moda y la música que les rodea.
En la segunda mitad del taller, los niños crearán su propia obra de arte inspirada en lo que han visto, todo ello bajo la guía de Louis.

January 24th – Thyssen-Bornemisza – Paint What You Feel
Pollock! Rothko! Mondrian! Join us on a tour looking at abstract art and learn how to read abstract paintings: we’ll discover how colour, line and shape can tell stories without images or words. Children will explore bold abstract artworks and ask big questions: Can a zigzag feel angry? Can blue feel calm? As always, we’ll do fun drawing activities that bring abstract art to life!

24 de enero – Thyssen-Bornemisza – Pinta lo que sientes
¡Pollock! ¡Rothko! ¡Mondrian! Acompáñanos en un recorrido por el arte abstracto para aprender a “leer” pinturas sin figuras: descubriremos cómo el color, la línea y la forma pueden contar historias sin imágenes ni palabras. Los niños explorarán obras abstractas llenas de fuerza y se harán grandes preguntas: ¿un zigzag puede parecer enfadado? ¿el azul puede transmitir calma? Como siempre, terminaremos con divertidas actividades de dibujo para dar vida al arte abstracto.

January 25th – Reina Sofía – Draw What you See… Then Change It!
Break the rules of art history! In this tour we’ll learn how to draw masterpieces in the collection, and then add a surprising element. This tour shows children that art is not frozen in time – it’s a starting point for new ideas. How would it look if your pet dog was added to Guernica? Or if your best friend from school was painted by Dali? Come along to find out!

25 de enero – Reina Sofía – Dibuja lo que ves… ¡y luego cámbialo!
¡Rompe las reglas de la historia del arte! En esta visita aprenderemos a dibujar obras maestras de la colección y después les añadiremos un elemento sorprendente. Esta experiencia muestra a los niños que el arte no está congelado en el tiempo, sino que es un punto de partida para nuevas ideas. ¿Cómo sería el Guernica si apareciera tu perro? ¿Y si Dalí pintara a tu mejor amigo del cole? ¡Ven a descubrirlo!

Step back in time with the Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks! This tour will take us through mosaics, marble statues, vases, and ancient artifacts, while Louis brings the myths and legends to life – heroes, animals, and adventures galore!

Paintings in the Prado are full of drama, mystery, and hidden clues. Who are these people? What just happened? What will happen next? In this tour, children become storytellers as they explore narrative masterpieces. We’ll observe faces, objects, settings and invent stories inspired by the artwork – then bring these ideas to life through drawing!

Los cuadros del Prado están llenos de drama, misterio y pistas ocultas. ¿Quiénes son estos personajes? ¿Qué acaba de pasar? ¿Qué ocurrirá después? Observaremos rostros, objetos y escenarios, inventaremos historias y las llevaremos al papel con el dibujo.

February 14th – Museo del Traje – Fashion through Time
What would you wear if you lived 200 years ago? Or 500? In this tour, children become time travellers, exploring how clothing has changed across history and why people dressed the way they did. We’ll draw from strange and interesting outfits as well as inventing our own.

What if a painting could talk? In this tour, children choose artworks from the Thyssen collection and transform them into short comic strips. We’ll learn what characters are thinking, saying, or doing next. This tour combines playful storytelling with drawing and is perfect for fans of story books or graphic novels.

¿Y si un cuadro pudiera hablar? En esta visita, los niños eligen obras de la colección del Thyssen y las transforman en pequeñas historietas. ¿Cuál es la estructura del taller?
El taller tiene una duración de 1 hora y 30 minutos. La primera mitad consiste en una visita temática por el museo, durante la cual Louis explica las historias, técnicas y la importancia de las obras de arte, además de generar un debate con los niños para que hablen sobre las obras. La segunda mitad será una clase de dibujo donde los niños realizarán bocetos a lápiz de obras famosas de la colección.

What is the structure of the workshop?
The workshop lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes. Most workshops take place in the collections of the “Big Three”: the Prado Museum, Reina Sofía Museum, and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Occasionally, we will also organise visits to special temporary exhibitions.

What happens if we arrive late?
Please try to arrive at least 10 minutes before the session begins. We cannot enter the museum until all children in the group have arrived.

What should children wear?

Can siblings of different ages attend the same session?
As long as they are 7 years old or older, siblings may join the same session. For younger children, we recommend waiting until they meet the age requirement.
